Media Release

I request to participate in the Castro Valley Dramatic Arts Academy Theatre Workshop (“CVDAATW”), including but not limited to, the participation in lessons, rehearsals, and performances of final productions, whenever such activities may occur (the “Theatre Activities”) conducted by Castro Valley Dramatic Arts Academy (“CVDAA”) and all of their respective employees, members, volunteers, directors, officers, laborers and agents (collectively, the “Releasees”).

IN CONSIDERATION of being provided access to participate in CVDAATW the Participant, for himself or herself, and his or her personal representatives, heirs and next of kin, intending to be legally bound hereby, acknowledges, agrees and represents as follows:

I hereby grant any and all of the Releasees, and their successors, assignees, licensees, employees, agents, representatives, affiliates and vendors the absolute right, permission and irrevocable consent to use photographic portraits, videos or pictures of me for any purpose whatsoever, without restriction and without further compensation to me, throughout the world, whether apart from or in connection with, or illustrative of, any written matter, story, or news items, or for trade or advertising, or for any other purpose, in any medium, in color or otherwise, negative or positive, mechanical or electronic.

I understand that the images may be altered and I hereby waive any right that I may have to inspect and approve the finished photographic portraits, videos or pictures, the advertising or other copy that may be used in connection therewith, or the use to which such photographic portraits, videos or pictures may be applied.

I hereby represent and warrant that I have read the foregoing Release prior to its execution and I am fully familiar with and understand the terms thereof.

I have executed this Release as of the

Workshop Expectations & Guidelines

All effective training programs have rules that are designed to support and enhance the effectiveness of the training.  Sometimes these rules are written or spoken and sometimes they are unwritten and implied. The purpose of this document is to be as clear as possible with respect to the expectations and guidelines for action by students, teachers and administrators participating in the CVDAA program.
Please review these carefully and provide your signature at the bottom of the document.  Your signature indicates that you have read and understood all program guidelines and expectations.
  1. Actors must always arrive on time.  This means in place, ready to begin, at the start of rehearsal or class.
  2. Participation is critical to the success of the program.  If you signed up to participate in the program then you will need to be at every class and participate, this is how you become skillful.
  3. Any comments about another actor’s behavior on or offstage should be made directly to their instructor or director.  It is this person’s job to decide what should be addressed, how and when.
  4. There is no chatting or horseplay during rehearsal or class.  While actors are on the stage, others should be watching, studying lines or running lines in a location selected by the director or instructor.  The director or instructor must be able to locate each member of the cast at any moment in the rehearsal or class. One never knows when something in a scene requires your consideration.
  5. Please review all class and rehearsal schedules thoroughly, actors that miss more than 3 days of classes or rehearsal will be at risk of losing the opportunity to perform in the final show and continuing with their participation in the program.  This is simply a safety issue. Final determination of who will or will not perform in any performance is at the sole discretion of the director.
  6. Actors must attend all of their tech week rehearsals and performances.  If an actor misses a technical rehearsal or dress rehearsal they will be at risk of losing the opportunity to perform in the show and continuing with their participation in the program.
  7. If you are ill or need to miss a class, rehearsal or program day, ALWAYS contact the program administrator Johnna Ashton, or your director.
  8. Bring a notebook and pen or pencil to write things down to ALL classes and rehearsals.
  9. All actors, faculty and staff will participate in keeping the spaces we work in clean. We will always leave a space better than when we found it.
  10. Do not eat in a work space.
  11. Actors are expected to make sincere effort to being memorized as quickly as possible.  (Sincere effort = 20-30 minutes per night) Memorization is not acting any more than playing scales is performing a musical piece.  Ideally actors should be fully memorized within 1 week of receiving their script
  12. Actors are in rehearsal every day, but may not work with the director every time. All actors are expected to work on their scenes/lines or watch the rehearsal in progress when not working with the director.
  13. All shows are cast according to what combination of actors will best serve the telling of the story. There is no requirement for directors to perfectly “balance” numbers of lines, sizes of roles, etc. CVDAA shows are all done as ensemble shows.Respect
  14. CVDAA operates with a zero tolerance policy with respect to disrespecting fellow students and/or faculty.  All students and faculty will demonstrate mutual respect and self control. If a student acts disrespectfully to fellow students, faculty or staff they will risk immediate expulsion from the program.
  15. CVDAA reserves the right to determine who will or will not participate in the program at any time.  If a student is asked to leave the program for any reason they will have the remaining prorated amount of their tuition refunded.
  16. Students will get out of the program what they put into it. This applies to things like energy and memorization, but we also encourage the students to bring in props, new costume/character ideas, etc. The more personal flair they bring to the table, the better the work will feel.
  17. ALL PAPERWORK including registration, scholarship applications and payment terms must be completed prior to the student starting class.

I have carefully read this Agreement and fully understand its contents. I agree to comply with the rules and expectations outlined above
